Physically and virtually integrating multimedia technologies of various sorts, this project provides an unprecedented experience to the audience. Watching a Hollywood standard film in a 4-D cinematic theater with vibratile seats, along with other hi-tech mechanism, it is rather difficult to literally describe the astonishing enjoyment you might go through. We do believe this project has successfully created a brand-new museum-visiting experience.
What an outstanding and amazing project! We can't wait to visit and experience this multimedia installation by ourselves.
Producers said: Beyond All Boundaries, the signature cinematic experience at The National World War II Museum, was five years in the making. It was designed to attract new audiences as well as previous visitors to the Museum, and to bring World War II to life in an entirely new way— an immersive, multisensory journey through the war that changed the world. The production is site-specific and is shown exclusively at the Museum's Solomon Victory Theater.
Conceived and commissioned by the Museum, with Tom Hanks as Executive Producer and Narrator, and Phil Hettema and The Hettema Group as show producers and directors, Beyond All Boundaries weaves a spectacular tapestry of this epic conflict. The words and stories of actual WWII participants are brought to life by many of today's leading actors.
Viewers experience the war in first person. State-of-the-art special effects plunge viewers into the era. They feel the rumble of B-17 bombers, steam rising from the jungles of Guadalcanal, and snow falling inside the theater during the punishing Battle of the Bulge. Most of all, the audience understands as never before, the price of our precious freedom.
Beyond All Boundaries has received outstanding reviews and has been largely responsible for record-setting visitation. Audience numbers have exceeded projections and, in the three months since the film's premiere, total Museum visitation is triple the same period last year.
Beyond All Boundaries is powerful, authentic, inspiring—and a story for all time.

This Must Be Hell
Minnesota Historical Society

Can you image the scenario that you are staying in a transporter, highly possible to sacrifice yourself for your own country in any minute? This immersive multimedia installation is to provide you a simulation as such! Sitting in an aircraft renovated from the era of World-War-II and equipped with special lighting and sound effect, visitors could experience the mood to be a paratrooper ready to jump on Normandy.
This Must Be Hell works hard to connect to the audience of all ages for better understanding about how the paratroopers cope with one of the most critical moment in the history of World War II.
One cannot applaud too much on the perfect integration of physical environment and multimedia technologies in this project.

This Must Be Hell is an immersive multimedia experience that is the centerpiece of the exhibition Minnesota's Greatest Generation: The Depression, The War, The Boom at the Minnesota History Center. Visitors enter an actual World War II-era C-47 and sit on the same bench paratroopers would have occupied. A story unfolds about preparing for and executing the D-Day jump on Normandy, carrying the viewer from the patriotic enthusiasm of an American boot camp to a numbing reality in the air over France. A 16-channel sound system, video projected on the interior skin of the plane, and visual effects outside the plane windows enhance this already powerful story.
The goal of this presentation is to provide visitors with an emotional connection to the experiences and sacrifices of the World War II generation. One of the most critical elements to the project's effectiveness is the use of actual voices excerpted from oral histories and recorded memoirs. This connects to the overall goal of the exhibit: to gather and present the stories of this generation in their own words. The show is successful not only with this generation, but also as an inter-generational learning opportunity for their children and grandchildren.

BRONZE: Curious Ben
The Franklin Institute
and
GTOO
Judges said: Abandoning the conventional narrator-based approach, this project demonstrates how to impress the audience by creating a vivid 3D animation simply with retrospective image design, elegant background music and smooth montage.
Without a verbal word, this wonderful film still unfailingly tells the story about what Benjamin Franklin has discovered and invented in his life time and how his achievement has influenced the further development of modern science.
Producers said: The Franklin Institute selected GTOO Media to help create a stronger connection for museum visitors between the museum's legendary namesake and tradition of celebrating science. The Benjamin Franklin National Memorial Rotunda comes to life periodically with a 3D animation projected in high definition on four screens nearly 20 feet tall. Together with a choreographed light show, the space is transformed with moving images, lights, and music. There were inherent challenges to introducing media into a rotunda comprised of stone and marble: The acoustics were less than ideal for a narrative approach and there was no screen surface to use for video. The solution was to design a visual-story that did not rely on narration, instead using imagery, video, and text in an artful montage set to a custom music score that included use of a glass armonica, Franklin's own musical invention. To address sound issues in the rotunda, acoustic panels were mounted on four vertical surfaces to absorb sound while also working as projection screens. Mirrors rotate the projected image beams to match the vertical surface orientation.
Now, visitors may find their curiosity piqued by this vibrant homage to Franklin's legacy of leading a purposeful life of creativity and service.

The most ingenious part of this project lies in its combination of the real-sized model, camera, and projector to create a unique story-telling platform, presenting the main characteristics of the very museum and cultural distinctiveness of the locale.
Elaborately designed music score, narration and atmosphere not only convey the general idea of what the museum is to address but also create a visiting experience of profound richness for the audience.
Producers said:
The Broekerveiling in Broek op Langedijk (Netherlands) is the oldest waterborne auction house in the world. This impressive wooden building was erected in 1912 en was built over water on 1900 wooden piles. The auction hall now functions as a working museum.
To give visitors an introduction Museumstudio came up with 'The Auction Day'. In five minutes visitors experience the general story about the farmers punting their boats across the 'Realm of the Thousand Islands', as the region is called, progressing to the wharves of the Broekerveiling and then on to the auction hall to sell their produce. Museumstudio chose aan unique way to appeal to the different target groups: tourists, elderly people and families.
This story is told not by showing just an ordinary film, but through an exceptional live-experience. At the center of the room there are four glass cases containing animated maquettes, a suspended caroussel with pictures and six video cameras. The landscapes come to life as they are filmed live by their own cameras, and are then edited in real-time and projected onto a wall: a magical, living miniature-world-made large.
