Call for Session Proposals
Greetings to Members of the Media and Technology Committee,
Thanks to all of you who helped to organize and put on all of the many M&T events that are a cornerstone to the conference. It remains an essentially volunteer process, and all the contributions, large and small helped us to strengthen our many associations and opportunities.
The challenge NOW is the time again that we organize panels for the AAM 2008 Denver (April 27th - May 1st).
2008 has as its theme: Leadership: An Open Mic for New Ideas
We encourage you to search for new answers and/or discussions to the following ideas:
- Technology and the Small Museum (all areas)
- New Technology for Museum Information Management
- Open Source Software Development for Museum Volunteer-based Organizations
- Best Models, Best Practice in Distance Education and Online Learning
- Tapping the Potential of Online Teen Culture
- Using Technology to Support Family Learning - Onsite and Online
- Digital Native vs. Digital Immigrant - New Ideas for Educational Programs
- Educating Emergent Professionals - Training Museum in Technology
- Packaging Social Participation and Social Networking
- Visitor Contributed Content or Wiki Exhibition Technology
- Web 2.0, Second Life - Discussions and Implications
- Exhibition Based Technology - Tapping New Trends
- Metadata and Nomenclature: How it Applies to Collection Manager
- Making Archive, Library, and Collection Systems Work Together
- Evaluating Museum Experiences - New Ideas
- Green Technology
- Succession and Strategy Planning in Museum Technology
- Data and System Migration and Integration
- Proliferation of Museum Organizations and Sustainability
What can you do?
For those who attended at Chicago, look over your notes and think back for a moment. Send me your comments as to what were the outstanding topics or individual speakers that you saw. What were the issues that you would like to see addressed again, in greater detail, or perhaps differently? Even if you didn't attend, take a moment to review the same questions: what information or topics need to be explored in a forum where so many diverse associates gather? What should we, as a committee, be looking at as our important, central concerns?
If you are interested in participating in a session as a panelist or as a chair, (or want to know more about what that might mean in terms of commitment, logistics, etc.) let me know ASAP. If you simply wish to be a facilitator, and not speak, then pass along some names (nominate your colleagues to do it!) and pass along ideas. This is not an empty solicitation, you will be responded to, and this is a direct path to having your voice heard...join in!
Click here to submit your preliminary idea(s) online to the program chair! Or you can just send an email to programs@mediaandtechnology.org
DEADLINE FOR M&T SPC ENDORSEMENT (complete proposal) is July 9, 2007.
To get started:
1) Download the Session Proposal Form (Word doc).
2) Consult the AAM Session Proposal Guidelines and Form.
Again, thanks to you all for being a part of this committee. I look forward to our further conversations.
My best,
Herminia
